St. Louis police chief Sam Dotson speaks about the police killing of Kajieme Powell.

watches *The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department released cell phone footage Wednesday of the police shooting of Kajieme Powell, the 25-year-old black man killed on Tuesday in St. Louis.

In addition to the cell phone footage, the department also released security camera footage of the alleged robbery, as well as the two 911 calls made to police.

Another woman called to report Powell was acting erratically and had a knife in his pocket.

The officers began shooting within 15 seconds of their arrival, hitting Powell with a barrage of bullets.

Dotson defended the officers in a television appearance later Wednesday, acknowledging the discrepancies between his Tuesday account and what the video revealed. Though Powell’s hands were down by his sides, Dotson told CNN, he was moving toward the officer with a knife.

“The officers did what I think you or I would do, they protected their life in that situation,” Dotson said.

CNN’s Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo pushed Dotson on the officers’ decision to use lethal force, rather than opting for an alternate form of defense like a Taser.

“Certainly a Taser is an option that’s available to the officers, but Tasers aren’t 100 percent,” Dotson said. “So you’ve got an individual with a knife who’s moving towards you, not listening to any verbal commands, continues, says, ‘shoot me now, kill me now.’ Tasers aren’t 100 percent. if that Taser misses, that [individual] continues on and hurts an officer.”

“In a lethal situation, they used lethal force,” he added.

Four jokes in the black community when it comes to protection and help

1. 911 2. Barry Obama 3. Eric Holder 4. Clarence Thomas

Reply Liz August 21, 2014 at 1:42 pm

Here is the game:

1. Eric Holder promises to investigate. The same promise he gave with Trayvon Martin two years ago. the case quietly slips in to history and he leaves office. A white appointee takes over and closes the case as not guilty and no evidence to substantiate the crime.

2. If you right to have oral sex, anal sex or cross dress is violated and you are not hired because of sexual preference? Barry Obama will personally be there. If little white children are killed in Connecticut, Barry Obama will personally be there. But if Hadiya Pendleton, Mike Brown or Trayvon Martin are killed, he sends his black wife Michelle or Eric Holder to lie and stall.

3. George Bu… excuse me, Barry Obama does not care about black people.

He is a joke as President. I would rather have Bush than this actor. Clinton was right, he gives good speeches (head) but, is impotent as a leader. Where is the leadership. This imposter of a black man is an actor. And before you comment that he is not a civil rights leader, let me remind you that Gay rights are civil rights and Barry Obama stuck his neck out and passed over 200 bills for those rights. He never missed on LBGT meeting and missed all but one NAACP meeting. People lie but, number don’t.

When will people understand that B.H. Obama is president of the nation and not a civil rights leader who is on call when things go wrong?

Liz is telling the truth and I’m black. Actions do speak louder than words, so pull you horse blinders off!

The police could have used their tazers and non-lethal force, but they didn’t elect to do that because they do not value black life. In fact, I believe they enjoy killing black men in particular.

The police had their weapons drawn as soon as they arrived on scene. What the hell is that? If these cops are so damn scared, they need another career.

These angry white guys can’t get to Obama, so they are having a field day justifying murdering civilian black people.

These cops could have used other means to resolve this incident other than their standard excuse, “He didn’t obey our commands, so we had no choice but to kill him. We were afraid for our lives.” What rubbish.

Why not back off and try talking the guy down? Is there a 30 second rule that if you don’t obey the cops’ command within 30 seconds you get executed? This is B.S. people. These cops are murderers!

It’s time to start prosecuting these murderous swines. I’m confident prison time will stem the tide of these thuggish sissies killing black people, because no white cop wants to be locked up in prison.

Take in that visual for a moment… a white cop in prison. Can you say locked up in protective custody 23 hours a day, with one hour out of their cell for recreation per day, for 5, 10, 15, or 20 years, boys and girls?

Prosecuting these rogue cops is the only way this mess is going to stop.

Every black person in America needs to get their “proper I.D.” and get registered to vote, and vote these “public officials” (aka jackasses) out of office.

Ferguson only had 5-6% of black people voting in the last election. Please… If you are black and you’re not voting, you are part of the problem.

Our ancestors are crying out from their graves asking, “How is it possible that you are not voting black people, after all we endured for you?”

We absolutely must organize and demand accountability, and reforms from these corrupt politicians, and police departments. This “us against them” crap with the cops is out of control. These people work for us damn it!

The vacation and snooze time is over black people. These racist pigs are trying annihilate us. Seriously… We really don’t need anyone to tell us this anymore, do we?

When there is a meeting to plan a rally, please show up. Participate in our recovery.

My mother always said, “Son, you can get angry, or you can get smart. I suggest that you choose getting smart, you will accomplish more.” And she was right!

When you are in public protesting, every man in the group should confront any fool who tries to throw anything, any idiot trying break into any place, any imbecile trying to burn anything, because these a$$holes are giving white people excuses to distract from the real issues of the day – systemic brutality and murder of black people.

Those of us from the original civil rights movement are very much aware of how the FBI, police, and other clandestine organizations planted people in our ranks to ignite violence. So, to all of the brothers marching for righteous reforms, stop any and all fools attempting to sabotage our cause! They are ignorant creeps who know nothing about defeating the enemy.

In the past, police “plants” have thrown rocks, bottles, molotov cocktails, fired weapons, etc., and run away, leaving the orderly protesters to incur the wrath of the police armed to the teeth.

Marching at night is not wise folks. Especially with women and children present. These creepy cops are looking for an excuse to beat, shoot, and harm our people. These cowards are so afraid, that if anyone throws something or fires a weapon and hits a cop, they can spray tear gas, beat, arrest and shoot anyone indiscriminately (instead of seeking the violator), and they’ll explain it away by saying, “The crow became threatening, and we feared for our safety.”

We must get organized people. The church “leaders” are limp, and impotent. They are not willing to take up the mantel o civil rights any longer, so we absolutely must do this without them. We can pray, and find places to hold our meetings without them. I’m tired of begging them to get involved.

Ever since George W. Bush gave churches their “faith based initiatives” they are fat and happy building their monuments to their themselves. So let’s get going without those bourgeois negroes.

We have to outline our grievances, provide solutions, and demand action from our “representatives.” We have to be our own “lobbyists” and hold these elected officials accountable.

Whenever there is an egregious act on the part of police, government officials, the school board, city council, or any other entity, high unemployment, bad laws (like stand your ground) we must show up and cut the nonsense off immediately. We must make our presence known.

We can do this people. Believe it or not, there are some white folks who are just as outraged as we are regarding the blatant racism throughout America. Those are the white folks who are really paying attention, and give a damn.

We had broad coalitions during the civil rights movement in the 60′s. And guess what, we formed alliances with white folks, Jews, Catholics and the like – and it worked! Jim Crowe was brought to it’s knees.

A lot of people don’t know this but, the Black Panther Party had a ton of support from white folks. White folks supplied money for programs, legal representation, real estate, and the like. They also showed up to discuss strategies for legislation, rallies and took beatings from the racist cops during protest (especially the hippies at that time).

Yes, we will have to put a modern twist on our campaign, but hey, that’s what social media does best.

Social media alerted people to the Trayvon Martin tragedy on that fateful Sunday night. It took the mainstream quite some time to catch on. We have a bigger advantage today in terms of getting the word out regarding rallies, proposed legislation, fund raising, organizing committees, etc. than when we organized back in the 60′s.

The one big advantage we had back then, that I pray will happen today is the fact that we had brave men and women who were committed!

I’ll end my rant by saying, play time is over, it’s time to get to work people!
